CCM JetSpeed FT3 Pro Senior Hockey Stick

Thanks to its incredible performance, the CCM’s JetSpeed line gained a lot of popularity among professional and recreational players. The JetSpeed FT1, and later the FT2, were a massive success since they were the epitome of peak performance at the time of their release.

Naturally, CCM released a JetSpeed FT3, a successor to the FT2 hockey stick, which brought several improvements to the predecessor’s design. However, they also released a Pro version of the FT3, which is the topic of today’s review.

In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the JetSpeed FT3 Pro hockey stick and what advantages and drawbacks set it apart from the original JetSpeed FT3. So, if you’re thinking about upgrading your gear, read through our review first.

Specifications:

The stick comes in an assortment of lengths and flexes, catering to Pro and Elite-level athletes in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions. Fortunately, the product retained some signature features of the JetSpeed line, like the Sigmatex ST and a hybrid flex point, but more on those late. For now, here’s a generalized specification list:

  • Weight: 375 grams (Senior)
  • Available lengths (in): 49, 50, 52, 55, 57, 59, 60, 62
  • Flex-profile: Hybrid flex (low-to-mid)
  • Available flexes: 35, 40, 50, 55, 65, 70, 75, 85, 95

Construction:

As we previously said, the JetSpeed FT3 brought significant improvements in the stick’s strength and resilience. However, it couldn’t deal with the weight reduction, and the new iteration, though stronger and better, actually weighs the same as the JetSpeed FT2.

Wanting to usher their professional line of hockey sticks into a sub-400-grams category and offer players a better competitive edge, the CCM reiterated the JetSpeed F3. The JetSpeed FT3 Pro is lighter, more responsive, and more costly than the previous version.

Let’s dive into structural details and see what gives the FT3 Pro a competitive edge over the original, and is the upgrade worth the money?

Shaft:

Apart from different prints and graphics, the shaft of JetSpeed FT3 Pro differs very little from those of the FT3 and FT2 hockey sticks. Like JetSpeed hockey sticks’ previous iterations, the FT3 Pro also features a signature R-geometry shaft shape. This geometry delivers a more comfortable grip, thanks to the rounded corners and concave sidewalls of the shaft.

The stick even retained the iconic hybrid flex the JetSpeed line is known for. It allows players to use the FT3 Pro as either a low-kick or a mid-kick hockey stick by changing bottom hand placement.

But if those things remained the more-or-less the same, what are the improvements JetSpeed FT3 Pro has to offer? Well, the genuine improvements lie in the FT3 Pro’s inner beauty; inside its structural design.

The CCM used the same Sigmatex Spread Tow material previously found on the JetSpeed FT2 and FT3 hockey sticks. However, instead of using the ACL or C6-weave carbon layering technologies we’ve seen in previous iterations, CCM used an innovative Nanolite Carbon Layering technology.

Combining Sigmatex ST with the Nanolite Carbon Layering process enabled CCM to pack more lightweight material into the same amount of space. This made significant improvements to the stick’s strength and resilience while shaving off more than 35 grams of weight.

That’s right, CCM JetSpeed FT3 Pro weighs only 375 grams, and it’s the lightest hockey stick CCM has ever released onto the market. Additionally, this weight reduction places the FT3 Pro into the sub-400-grams category and rates well, even against competitor models.

Blade:

The FT2 used a revolutionary JF-80 blade, which significantly enhancea the puck control, but the FT3 model features a C6-weave JS4 blade with PeelPly blade texture. This change of blades dramatically affected the weight of the original FT3 model, reducing it down to 410 grams. However, though more durable, the JS4 blade was still considered heavy by the manufacturer.

So, CCM decided to redesign the JetSpeed FT3 Pro hockey stick blade, combining the designs for the JF-80 and the JS4 blades into one. Thus, the JetFuel-90 blade was born, and it’s now a rightful ruler over the JetSpeed line.

This lightweight blade uses an exclusive dampened core inside the blade’s hollow channels, which reduces the blade’s weight but enhances the puck feel. Additionally, the entire contact surface was reinforced heel-to-toe with Sigmatex technology to increase stiffness and overall resistance to wear and tear.
Additional stiffness of the JF-90 blade plays well with the hybrid flex point and eliminates any twisting during shots. This provides better energy transfer from the shaft through the blade and into the puck, granting more power and better accuracy.

Performance:

The overall performance of the JetSpeed FT3 Pro is as expected from an elite-level low-to-mid hockey stick. Its lightweight construction and redefined balance point are some of the first noticeable improvements over its predecessor.

The hybrid flex’s added versatility is great for anyone looking to mix things up, as it bridges the gap between power and speed. With CCM FT3 Pro in your arsenal, you’ll be able to perform incredibly powerful shots or get the puck off your stick as soon as humanly possible.

But what really plays the crucial role, apart from the weight reduction, is the new blade’s dampened core and a textured surface. It allows for enhanced feel transfer and better grip of the puck, while the toe-to-heel reinforcement protects it from the usual wear and tear of ice rink battles.

PROS

  • Exceptional build qualityVariety of lengths and flexes
  • Sub-400-gramsWell-balanced
  • JF-90 blade with P90TM blade pattern

CONS

  • Pricier than the original
  • Hybrid-flex needs getting used to

Conclusion:

The exceptional performance and build quality helped CCM JetSpeed FT3 Pro find its way into the hands of some of the NHL’s finest athletes, like John Tavares and Alex Tuch. Its structural design paired with innovative technologies and modern materials makes it more responsive, lightweight, resilient, and power-effective than its predecessors.

So, if you’re looking for a powerful and responsive hockey stick that provides elite-level performance, and you don’t mind paying for it – the CCM JetSpeed FT3 is right up your alley! If you’re asking us if the upgrade is worth the money – yes, it is!
