The RibCor Trigger 4 Pro was released for the 2019/2020 season and quickly joined the ranks of the best hockey sticks on the market. Today, in 2021, the Trigger 4 Pro remains a strong contender, even among newer hockey sticks the market currently offers.
CCM is well-known for its top-performing hockey gear that caters to professional- and elite-tier players, and Trigger 4 Pro mirrors that attribute. This review aims to examine and comprise all the details regarding CCM’s RibCor Trigger 4 Pro, its build quality, and performance in the rink.
Reading through this review will allow you to make an informed purchase if you ever come across CCM’s RibCor Trigger 4 Pro hockey stick while purchasing a new hockey stick.
The RibCore Trigger 4 Pro is an OPS hockey stick with a low-kick flex profile, available in Junior, Intermediate, and Senior categories, with appropriate lengths and flexes. Depending on the category, its length can vary between 49” and 62”, with proper flexing.
- Weight: 395 grams (Senior)
- Available lengths (in): 49, 52, 55, 57, 59, 60, 62
- Flex-profile: low-kick
- Available flexes: 40, 50, 55, 65, 70, 75, 85, 95
We measured a 60” Senior-category stick with 85 flex and a P29 blade with an open-angle. Keep in mind that this is neither the longest nor the stiffest RibCor Trigger 4 Pro model, but the most common.
The RibCor Trigger 4 Pro’s overall design is based on the design of its super-successful predecessor -the RibCor Trigger 3D. Nothing is drastically changed from the stick’s previous iteration; Trigger 4 Pro follows the same path of dexterity, resilience, and speed as the rest of the Trigger line. However, compared to its predecessor, it brings significant enhancements to the original design.
CCM Performance Labs redesigned the shaft and its ergonomics to provide exceptional comfort without diminishing its performance. The stick is molded using CCM’s proprietary X-Flow molding technology, which removes excess resin and unwanted space within the stick’s material. This way, CCM managed to improve the overall material consistency throughout the stick, thus increasing its durability.
This one-piece composite stick’s filler material is the Sigmatex ST carbon fiber, which was specially designed for CCM’s applications. Sigmatex ST was first introduced in Trigger 2 and has moved to all three CCM stick lines due to its fantastic properties. The material is remarkably lightweight while offering exceptional strength and impact resilience.
Combining Sigmatex ST carbon fibers with the X-Flow molding process proved an extraordinary idea because it provided unprecedented results in previous models. In the case of RibCor Trigger 4 Pro, it gives otherworldly durability and reduced weight of 395 grams, making Trigger 4 Pro the first sub-400-grams RibCor to date.
When it comes to the kick point, the stick features an Asymmetrical taper, which is unique to CCM’s RibCor line, making it a synonym for low-kick flex points. Its construction features concave walls which provide more flexural speed and prevent any torsional flexing that might compromise the stick’s accuracy. The low-kick profile allows you to quickly load the stick and get the puck off your blade with lightning speed.
CCM equipped Trigger 4 Pro with their Agility blade, which’s made of a dampened inner core, wrapped with the same Sigmatex ST the shaft’s made of. The core provides a soft but detailed feel of the puck, which allows for better control and accuracy. But the outer material is what gives the blade its stiffness, along with a better linear flex, which enhances the release speed of your shots.
Given that the Trigger 4 Pro is an OPS stick wrapped entirely in Sigmatex ST, the energy transfer from the blade to the shaft, and vice versa, is incredible. It allows you to feel the puck on the blade as if it was in your hand, which can only enhance your gameplay.
The performance of Trigger 4 Pro can only be characterized as outstanding and as expected from an elite-level hockey stick. Its overall build quality becomes apparent when you take the stick into your hands – it feels as comfortable as the old shoe. And we say that in a good way.
The shaft’s geometry sits comfortably in the hands’ palms, making the stick feel lighter than it already is, and we are talking about a sub-400-grams stick. Its low weight allows you to use it without constraints, into most tight spaces if necessary. The stick’s strength and resilience will undoubtedly come in handy in those moments, where its durability really shines.
What “pops” the most about RibCor Trigger 4 Pro, apart from fantastic materials, is the asymmetrical taper. Its unique geometry allows for better energy load and transfers while preventing any twists and turns. The results are pretty apparent – quick shots with sniper-like precision.
The Agility blade contributes to overall control and accuracy by providing a great feel of the puck throughout the stick. If you like to play more aggressively, with a dose of unpredictability and deception, you’ll love the Agility blade on this hockey stick. You’ll always know where the puck sits on your blade and exactly where it’s headed after its release.
As for drawbacks, we couldn’t find any, given the stick’s release date, price point, and performance level. Arguments could be made that there are lighter, more durable, or newer hockey sticks on the market, but only a rare few can match Trigger 4 Pro’s dexterity, durability, and release speed.
- Fantastic durability
- Great ergonomics
- High-quality materials
- Lighter sticks on the market
The CCM RibCor Trigger 4 Pro is the child born between years of studies and material science engineering. Naturally, as the next evolutionary step of the Trigger line of products, the Trigger 4 Pro outperforms its predecessors and many other sticks on the market.
So, if you’re in the market for a hockey stick that helps you hone your competitive edge, the CCM’s RibCor Trigger 4 Pro is a great choice.
